Winemaker’s Notes

Just 2,800 bottles of this very special first release Blanc de Blancs was made from our inaugural harvest in 2013. Produced from 100% Chardonnay grapes using the highest quality cuvee press cut and aged 'on-lees' for 3 years, this sparkling wine has matured to produce a wine with elegance, finesse and subtle complexity.

This sparkling wine has been produced by the traditional method of bottle fermentation with an extended period of ‘on-lees’ ageing which has contributed to the development of delicious patisserie-like aromas of brioche, baked apple and almond which perfectly complement the crisp fruit of the Chardonnay grape. Pale gold in colour with a fine, delicate and persistent mousse, the palate is soft yet vibrant and fresh.

Delicious as an aperitif or with a variety of lightly flavoured savoury dishes and cheeses.

“Very dry, fine, unevolved and pure. Lovely perfumed Chardonnay aromas with a chalky hint . Huge potential . Very elegant.” Wine Challenge Judges

“The [Albourne Estate] Blanc de Blancs has great freshness, purity and balance, with high minerality and a long finish. It would make an ideal companion to cheese plates and, or, all day drinking” Antonin Dubuis, Head Sommelier at Clos Maggiore, Covent Garden.

“The Blanc de Blancs is very refreshing, crisp and with citrus coming through” Valentin Checa, Sommelier at Flemings, Mayfair, London.

“I am a big fan of Champagne really, but for a British sparkling, this one is well made.” Helena Guillou, Sommelier at Gordon Ramsay’s Heddon Street Kitchen, London.

“The Blanc de Blancs was subtle and elegant, and tasting it at Albourne Estate made it even more splendid”. Matthias Carcel, Food & Beverage Manager at The White Horse in Brixton, London.

It is an honour to be the first to review on this wine and many congratulations to Albourne Estate on this “Blanc de Blanc” the newest edition to the family. What an achievement!
Quite simply this English sparkling is very very good and truly the best English sparking I have tasted and in actual fact is up there with the very best France has to offer.
