|2018 was an exceptional vintage in both quantity and quality and this week we are excited to launch our 2018 still wines plus the first ever English Frizzante!
The abundance of the 2018 harvest presented us with great opportunites for blending our wines – so that even a single varietal wine, like our Bacchus, is blended from 7 different tanks with variations in picking date, press treatment and winemaking methods. This has allowed us to not only experiment more but also improve the complexity and balance in our wines. This year the Cellar Selection is renamed as Sandstone Ridge, reflecting our underlying sandstone geology and we have upped the Chardonnay in the blend. We hope you enjoy trying them all.
Our Frizzante is a delightfully new and light-hearted way to enjoy our ever-popular Bacchus wine. Produced via tank fermentation, this lightly sparkling style fills the mouth with a gentle creamy effervescence that beautifully compliments the elegance and crisp freshness of the wine. The addition of only a small amount of sugar for the second fermentation in tank delivers the ‘lighter fizz’ and at just 2 bar pressure allows us to bottle under screw cap. The ‘tank method’, without the prolonged lees contact ageing of our traditional bottle fermented sparkling wines, also lends itself to creating this lighter, fresher fruit focussed style of wine.
The beautiful image of a murmuration of starlings over the iconic West Pier in Brighton was drawn for us by tattoo artist, Jo Chastney.
We only made 3,500 bottles – so grab some while you can!
